TYPES OF IV FLUID/SALINE

There are three types of IV fluids:

1.isotonic-

IV fluids that have a similar concentration of dissolved particles as blood.

Example -0.9% Normal Saline (0.9% NaCl)

2.hypotonic

IV fluid that have a lower concentration of dissolved solutes than blood.

Example is 0.45% Normal Saline (0.45% NaCl)

3.hypertonic

IV fluid that have a higher concentration of dissolved particles than blood.

Example 3% Normal Saline (3% NaCl)
