(a) SKELETAL TRACTION

1.BALANCED SUSPENSION TO FEMUR

IT is used in patient age 3 and older on the upper tibia or thigh weight with 9 to 16kg

Purpose -

*realignment of fracture of femur

*relief of muscle Spasm associated with femoral fracture

2.CERVICAL TRACTION VS SKULL TONGS

It is used in the patient of any age but especially in young adult, bilaterally on skull bone with 9-14 kg of weight

Purpose -

*realignment of the fracture of Cervical vertebrae

*relief of pressure on Cervical nerve

3.HALOPELVIC TRACTION

Used in adolescents and young adult on the skull and pelvis with no weight

Purpose -

Preoperative straightening of scoliosis curvature

(b) SKIN TRACTION 

1.BUCK 'S EXTENTION

Most commonly used in adult on one or both legs with 2.5 to 3.5 kg of weight per leg 

Purpose - 

*Preoperative traction for hip fracture

*pulling contacted muscle 

*relief of leg or back muscle Spasm 

2.CERVICAL HEAD HALTER

Used in adult under the chin and around the face and back of the head with 2.5 to 7kg of weight

Purpose -

Relief of muscle Spasm caused by degenerative or arthritic condition of Cervical vertebrae or bye muscle strain

3.COTREL'S TRACTION 

Used in adolescents  and young adult on with a head halter and a pelvic belt 

Purpose - 

Preoperative muscle stretching in patient with scoliosis 

4.DUNLOP'S TRACTION 

Used in adult and young adults on the lower humerus and forearm 

Purpose -

Realignment of fracture of the humerus 

5.PELVIC BELT OR GIRDLE 

Used in adolescents and adult on the abdomen or pelvis with 25 - 30lb of weight 

Purpose - 

Relief of muscle Spasm associated with disc condition 

6.PELVIC SLING 

Used in adult under the pelvis and buttocks with a Hammock with 20-35lb of weight 

Purpose - 

Holding of fractured pelvic bone 

7.RUSSEL TRACTION 

Used in patient age 5 and older on one or both legs of 1-2.5 kg of weight per legs

Purpose -

Preoperative traction for hip fracture

Pulling contacted muscle
